The Astrology of August 2026

The Astrology of August 2026: Leo in the Spotlight

This month opens with Mercury exiting its post-retrograde shadow on August 6th, lifting the fog and signaling the go-ahead on things delayed by July’s retrograde. This signal of forward momentum is shortly followed by a Solar Eclipse in Leo on the 12th, which highlights the Leo themes already begun with late June’s entry of Jupiter into Leo. The Lunar Nodes change signs into Aquarius and Leo on the 18th, bringing this polarity into focus for the next year and a half. Meanwhile, Jupiter continues its trek through Leo, peaking in an exact fiery trine to Saturn in Aries at the end of the month.

We can best harness these energies by making intentional moves to expand our horizons. With so much Leo at play, we are also invited to ask ourselves where we are longing to shine. With the Sun still in Leo through the 22nd, we are reminded to play, create, and seek enjoyment. Leo’s aim is to rejuvenate so that we have the stamina to do all else that we need to do in life.

The shadow side of Leo energy is also available, triggered by both the Leo eclipse and the South Node’s entry into Leo. If you’re needing approval or attention, it is helpful to be aware of it and instead to go about finding recognition in healthy ways.

Jeffrey Peck and I spoke on the eclipses, Jupiter newly in Leo, and how to use all of this Leo energy with intention in our recent YouTube Live. You can find the replay below:

The Nodes Changing Signs in August 2026

Just days after the Solar Eclipse, a shift occurs on August 18th as the Mean Lunar Nodes officially change signs, entering the Aquarius/Leo axis (North Node in Aquarius, South Node in Leo), where they will remain for the next 18 months.

We are collectively graduating from the analytical, self-sacrificing axis of Virgo and Pisces. The new evolutionary mandate shifts the spotlight onto how we balance the individual ego with the collective good. The South Node in Leo warns us against individual ego dramas, toxic narcissism, and demanding center-stage attention at the expense of others. Meanwhile, the North Node in Aquarius acts as our North Star, calling us toward collaborative community alignment, progressive innovation, and forward-thinking humanitarian ideals.

Venus enters its Pre-Shadow in Libra

  • Venus Enters Retrograde Pre-Shadow (8/31): The energy begins to slow down, encouraging us to review our relationships with a focus on: intimacy, balance, and authentic connection.

  • Venus Stations Retrograde in Scorpio (10/3):As Venus backtracks through Scorpio, we are urged to unearth hidden power dynamics, unexpressed vulnerabilities, and old emotional wounds that block true intimacy. The journey then shifts into Libra (10/25), the sign that Venus naturally rules. Here, the energetic focus transitions from Scorpionic depth to Libran harmony, inviting us to recalibrate the balance of power, clear up lingering misunderstandings, and restore a sense of mutual respect to our definitions of partnership.

  • Venus Stations Direct in Libra (11/13):Forward momentum slowly resumes. Pay attention to the insights gained during the retrograde period, as these will guide your steps forward.

  • Venus Retrograde Post-Shadow Ends (12/15):We leave the themes of review behind as Venus fully moves on.

Lunations of August 2026: Eclipse Season

New Moon / Solar Eclipse in Leo (8/12)

The August 12th Solar Eclipse in Leo acts as a powerful "heart-reset," urging us to prioritize our true selves over external validation. Leo, the sign of the sovereign, teaches us to lead with warmth and shine without needing permission. This eclipse marks a  turning point where we stop "performing" for others to make room for courageous, creative authenticity.

This is an invitation to reclaim your joy and change course if you have been dimming your light. Rather than simply being noticed, this transit encourages you to be seen for who you actually are. Practically, look for opportunities to lead or start projects that reflect your heart’s true desires. Ask yourself: If you stopped worrying about the audience, what would you create purely for the love of it?

Full Moon in Pisces (8/27)

The August 28th Lunar Eclipse in Pisces acts to illuminate the hidden emotional currents of your subconscious. Pisces, the sign of the mystic, teaches us the power of surrender and the wisdom found in the invisible realms. This eclipse marks a destined culmination where we release the need for control to make room for divine flow, to listen to the “still small voice within.”

This is an invitation to trust your inner voice and honor the endings that are currently unfolding. Rather than trying to force a logical outcome, this eclipse encourages you to embrace the healing power of letting go. Practically, prioritize quiet time, dream-work, or creative immersion that nourishes your soul. Ask yourself: If you trusted the universe completely, what heavy burden would you finally set down?

Aspects of August 2026

Jupiter in Leo trine Saturn in Aries (exact 8/31, in range all of August and September):

Jupiter has been trine Saturn intermittently since 2025, but its previous trines were in water signs. While the water-sign alignments focused on internal emotional foundations, this fire-sign trine nudges us toward visible, authentic expression. Jupiter in Leo acts as a grand magnifier of your creative confidence, urging you to step onto center stage and share your endeavors with a wider audience. Simultaneously, Saturn in Aries provides the raw discipline, independent drive, and boundaries needed to pioneer a new path. The trine ensures that your passion is backed by endurance, helping you to construct durable, long-term structures around your heart’s truest desires.

To harness the gifts of this alignment, you are asked to step completely out of your comfort zone and act as the wise, sovereign author of your own fate. By combining Leo's creative joy with the courageous initiative of Aries, your long-held visions can finally take tangible form in the physical world.

Final Thoughts

August 2026 begins with Leo taking up a lot of oxygen, but ends with a softer energy as the Sun moves into Virgo followed by the Lunar Eclipse in watery Pisces. With the heightened Leo energy, the lowest common denominator behavior in the collective right now might look like a lot of public temper tantrums and political self-aggrandizement (big surprise!) At the end of the month as we near the lunar eclipse, we will be more sensitive with the big lunar energy in a water sign. We could experience the urge to simply check out because the world feels "too much."

But the fire energy available to us this month is a reminder that we are the active co-creators of our experience. The alignments on August 31st show us that our biggest dreams are entirely possible when we back our optimism with steady, disciplined effort. Use this month to step out of comfortable habits, face your dragons, and take control of what you can.

Questions for Reflection:

To help you prepare your heart and mind for the intense shifts of August, consider these questions:

  • Where am I being challenged to step out of the shadows and boldly claim center stage in my own life?

  • What does "healthy visibility" look like for me?

  • What old, outgrown habits of hyper-criticism or control am I being called to surrender during the Pisces Lunar Eclipse?

  • How can I begin building a structured, daily routine that protects my creative joy and treats my hobbies or projects as a serious, non-negotiable calling?

  • What relational themes am I noticing as the Venus retrograde shadow begins at the end of the month?
