The Uranus-Pluto Trine

We are entering the influential Uranus-Pluto trine, a transit that will peak between June 2026 and the summer of 2028. Uranus in Gemini is about awakening to new ideas, questioning prevailing belief systems, and adopting a "beginner’s mind." Meanwhile, Pluto in Aquarius (which began in 2023) invites us to confront the shadow side of technology as it pushes for a power shift from the "one" to the "many." When these two heavy-hitting planets align, we can expect widespread social change and truly "interesting times."

As with any collective transit, these themes operate on both global and individual levels. In this post, I will explore the prominent themes emerging on the world stage and how we can best navigate this energy in our daily lives.

The Larger Cycle: A Historical Context

To understand this trine, we must look at the larger synodic cycle between these two planets. A synodic cycle tracks the relationship between two planets from one conjunction to the next. Between Uranus and Pluto, this cycle can last up to 140 years, though its length varies due to Pluto’s eccentric orbit. Our current cycle began with the powerful conjunction of 1965–1967 and will conclude in 2104.

We last saw these planets in a major aspect during the Uranus-Pluto square (2010–2015). Now, we enter the trine—the next evolutionary step in the cycle. While a square creates tension that forces action, a trine allows energies to blend harmoniously, enhancing and supporting one another.

When these planets trine, we witness a wave of societal change involving technological advances, political reform, and the transformation of existing power structures. These energies aren't inherently "positive" or "negative"; both expressions are available. However, the combination is undeniably transformative. Pluto intensifies everything it touches, amplifying Uranus’s qualities of rebellion, awakening, and surprise. Conversely, Uranus liberates Pluto’s themes of transformation and rebirth. Together, they create sweeping change. We can choose to ride this wave—or get caught in the undertow.

If this sounds daunting, remember that fear is Pluto’s realm. I don’t pull punches when discussing Pluto transits; as the Lord of the Underworld, Pluto oversees the things we often prefer to avoid. But when Pluto meets Uranus, the "Awakener," we can no longer outrun our fears. We see what must change in stark relief.

From Crisis to Momentum

Because this is a trine rather than a square, we can view this two-year window as an opportunity for integration:

  • The Mid-1960s (Conjunction): Initiated radical reforms to societal structures, including the civil rights movement, anti-war protests, women’s liberation, and the dawn of globalism.

  • 2010–2015 (Square): These movements reached a crisis point. We saw the Arab Spring and Occupy Wall Street, but also the rise of global isolationism and pushback against the progress made in the 1960s.

Over the past decade, many gains made toward equality and liberation have been degraded. The upcoming trine invites us to resume the work that began in the 1960s. This is an invitation to take action with the wind at our backs. While a trine doesn't force change, it supports revolutionary movements and social reform. It is an opportunity to move with the momentum of changes that benefit the many.

The Speed of Air: AI and Rapid Innovation

This trine takes place in Gemini and Aquarius—both Air signs. Air moves fast. These changes may happen so quickly that it becomes difficult to catch our collective breath. The rise of AI is a perfect example; the technology is already moving faster than our ability to regulate or even fully understand it. With this transit, AI development will likely accelerate even further over the next two years.

The genie is out of the bottle. It is up to each of us to consider how we want to use this technology responsibly and with intention. You can harness this power to create positive change by embracing proactive experimentation and "productive rebellion" in your personal life.

Questions for Reflection

As you consider this powerful transit, use these questions to ground the energy in your own life:

  1. Where am I playing it safe? In what area of my life have I been clinging to an old structure out of a desire for security, even though I know it’s time for an "upgrade"?

  2. How can I practice "productive rebellion"? What is one small, radical change I can make in my daily routine that honors my individuality rather than social expectations?

  3. What is my relationship with technology? Am I using the tools available to me (like AI or social media) with intention, or am I letting the "speed of the times" dictate my mental space?

  4. What does "the power of the many" mean to me? How can I contribute my unique talents to a collective movement or community project that serves the greater good?
