The Astrology of 2024

In 2024, the planets speak to us of endings. Saturn and Neptune continue through Pisces, the last sign of the zodiac. Uranus spends its final full year in Taurus. And Pluto wraps up its time in Capricorn. A time of endings makes way for a season of new beginnings.

This year is a good time to clear the way for new seeds by creating the most fertile ground possible in our lives. It’s time to clear our gardens of weeds, get rid of the clutter, and create a hospitable environment for the new vision that we want to bring into being.

In writing this forecast, I’m looking at the planetary movements as they affect the collective. As individuals, we can tap into the opportunities of these movements. And we benefit from knowing about the challenges so that we can avoid them.

If you’d like to know more about how these transits are affecting you and your individual chart, you can schedule a reading. Getting a reading is the best way to know the timing, duration, and impact of these transits within your chart.

Or if you’d like to learn more about your natal chart on your own so that you can find the house placements of the transiting planets for yourself, you can buy my beginner’s workbook.

PLUTO

Pluto reenters Aquarius: Jan. 20th

Pluto retrogrades back into Capricorn: Sep. 1st

Pluto exits Capricorn and enters Aquarius for third and final time: Nov. 19th

Pluto remains in Aquarius through 2043

Pluto times reveal what is broken so that we will repair it. Under Pluto in Capricorn (since 2008) We have seen our health system buckle and break under the weight of a pandemic. We are now confronting the realities of climate change. Pluto in Capricorn has been a time of paying the piper for the ways that humanity has mismanaged its resources.

But Pluto is not only about destruction. It is also about regeneration. During the final months of Pluto in Capricorn September - November of 2024, we are likely to see the death rattle of outmoded structures. But we have an opportunity to begin building something out of the ashes.

This ability to rebuild will gain momentum during Pluto’s transit through Aquarius, which encompasses most of 2024. Aquarius is the sign of revolution, technological advances, and humanitarianism. Over the next twenty years, we will likely see advances in technology that can help large groups of people.

But we also need to play our part, not just wait to be saved. With Jupiter in Gemini trine Pluto in Aquarius (May and June), we are offered a chance to break out of old ways of thinking. Opportunities come to us when we remain curious and welcome unorthodox solutions.

NEPTUNE

Neptune has been in Pisces since 2011 and continues through the sign until March 2025. In 2024, Neptune makes no major aspects to any other planets. However, Saturn and Neptune are both in Pisces for the entire year, which makes 2024 a continued time of pronounced Piscean themes.

Neptune rules Pisces, so its themes are amplified as it continues to ride through its home sign.

Neptune is associated with spirituality, creativity, and mysticism. Pisces, as a water sign ruled by Neptune, is connected to intuition, empathy, and a sense of interconnectedness. Neptune in Pisces also signals a time of endings, as Pisces is the last sign of the zodiac. We are being invited to learn the strategy of surrender in the face of inevitable change.

With any heightened Neptunian/Piscean time, we must also beware the shadow behaviors: escapism, self-delusion, and victim mentality. There can be a strong pull to just give up in the face of very real challenges in our lives, our country, and our planet.

To push against this, we must find a sense of meaning amidst the madness. We have to find our connection to something greater than ourselves. That may be through a spiritual path or practice, but it could equally be our devotion to a cause, or our investment in work that helps or heals others.

URANUS

Uranus entered Taurus in 2018 and continues to move through the sign until July 2025. Uranus and Jupiter come together in April of this year for a conjunction.

Uranus is the planet of liberation, revolution, breakthroughs. Taurus is a sign about our connection to our body and to the earth. Taurus also represents finding stability through our relationship to resources and money.

As this transit correlates to our connection to our bodies, we are invited to re-imagine how we take care of ourselves physically. It’s time to open up to unconventional methods and different approaches. If there is a healing modality you’ve been wanting to try, the energy is there to support it. If you are ready to do something radically different with your approach to diet and exercise, Uranus in Taurus will help you shake up your relationship to food and old habits.

Uranus in Taurus also supports breaking away from ingrained behaviors regarding spending, saving (or lack thereof), and earning. This is a good time to try new ways to invest, save, or create income.

Uranus in Taurus supports breakthroughs in the ways we deal with our physical world.

SATURN

Saturn entered Pisces in March of 2023 continues through Pisces until February 2026. Saturn in Pisces is a time when we’re invited to let go of our illusions and face reality. Paradoxically, it is also a time when we can bring our visions down to earth. In order to do so, we must embody Saturn and be willing to do the work, put in the time, and focus our energy.

This could be a melancholy, introspective time wherein we are inclined to reflect on the past. This serves us only in so much as we don’t get hung up on our regrets and what-ifs. We can instead let our reflections inform us about what is important to us now.

JUPITER

Jupiter begins the year in Taurus, where it has been since May 16th of 2023. It will be in Taurus until May 26th.

With Jupiter, planet of abundance, in Taurus, we continue to have the opportunity to grow our wealth. But the path to success is to take things slow and steady. When we stick with a strategy over time, we get results. And if we take practical steps with patience, Jupiter will assist us by bringing opportunities our way.

Jupiter then enters Gemini on May 26th, where it will remain until May 2025.

Jupiter in Gemini emboldens us to learn new things. We can expand our horizons by following our curiosities.

We find gifts during this transit when we cultivate flexibility. This can be an enjoyable time if you like variety. Jupiter in Gemini calls us to explore different ideas and experiences.

In its shadow expression, Jupiter can magnify Gemini's restlessness which may lead to a constant search for new experiences and knowledge. There might be a tendency to become easily bored or distracted if not consistently stimulated.

I will write a full post on Jupiter in Gemini when it begins in May.

The Jupiter-Uranus Conjunction

Jupiter will conjunct Uranus on Apr. 20th, and its influence is from late March through late May. The conjunction between these two happens only once every 13 years. Jupiter, planet of abundance, magnifies what it touches, so the Uranian themes of breakthrough, revolution, and liberation are emboldened.

This conjunction often correlates with breakthroughs, technological advancements, and innovative ideas. There are “lightbulb moments” available to us during this time. We may see new solutions to old problems more readily now than at other times. But be sure to take the time to vet these ideas before moving forward with them, as Jupiter’s shadow energy can cause us to overlook important details.

Under this conjunction we may feel more open to taking risks and exploring new possibilities. On the positive side, we can boldly break through fears that have kept us stuck for too long. The shadow side can express as optimism that fizzles, not sustaining us through long-term projects or commitments. We can use this energy to kick-start us into challenging new territory. But we must be prepared to sustain our efforts after the initial excitement fades.

These energies are most potent in matters related to Taurus: money, values, and our connection to our bodies.

The Jupiter-Saturn Square

Jupiter will square for the second half of the year 2024. The square will be in range for about a year total, approximately July 2024 - July 2025.

The natures of these two planets are innately in contrast. Jupiter is associated with expansion, growth, and optimism. Saturn, on the other hand, is associated with limitation, structure, and discipline. There might be a tension between the desire for exploration (Jupiter) and the need for caution (Saturn).

We are invited to strike a balance between optimism and realism. The opportunity of this transit is that each planet tempers the excesses of the other. For example, this can be a great time to brainstorm new ideas (Jupiter in Gemini) then to carry those ideas through with Saturn in Pisces’ realistic awareness of the big picture.

ECLIPSES

The eclipses this year continue to ride through the Aries/Libra polarity with the exception of the Pisces Lunar eclipse in September. The Pisces eclipse begins the new cycle that overlaps with the Aries/Libra cycle phasing out. I’ll be writing more about the new Pisces/Virgo pattern closer to that time.

That said, the Aries/Libra themes continue to be strong this year. Since the North Node is in Aries and the South Node is in Libra, we are invited to live into the positive expression of Aries and move away from the Libra Shadow.

Positive Aries themes are:

Starting something new

Facing fears that have kept us stuck

Taking action and making things happen

Owning our desires

Shadow Libra themes are:

Giving in to what others want at the expense of ourselves

Not speaking our truth in favor of being polite

Being inauthentic just to keep the peace

Brewing resentments in our closest relationships

Here are all the eclipse dates for 2024:

LUNAR Eclipse March 25th: 5 degrees Libra

SOLAR Eclipse April 8th: 19 degrees Aries

LUNAR Eclipse September 18th: 25 degrees Pisces

SOLAR Eclipse October 2nd: 10 degrees Libra

MERCURY RETROGRADES

The three Mercury Retrogrades this year fall in the signs of Aries (April), Leo and Virgo (August), and Sagittarius (Nov/Dec). So, they are mostly in fire signs, with a dash of earth.

With the fire signs highlighted, we’ll be especially cautioned to “look before we leap.” The fire signs share the qualities of being action-oriented, spontaneous, and impulsive. During these periods, stop and count to three before moving forward, even though all signs may point to “go.”

Mercury Retrograde in each of these three signs will be guiding us all to slow our roll during these times, even though it could be extra tempting to charge ahead.

You can find the dates and degrees of all the Mercury Retrogrades for 2024 HERE

OTHER RETROGRADES

Mars stations retrograde at the very end of 2024, on December 6th. However, its pre shadow begins on October 4th. Mars will pass through Leo and Cancer during the retrograde, and will spend longer than usual in these signs. I will write a full post on Mars Retrograde in Leo/Cancer closer to that date.
