The Saturn-Uranus Square

This summer and fall, we are in the last throes of the Saturn-Uranus square. This collective transit was at its height for much of 2021, but it’s back for its final wrap-up here in the second half of 2022.

Saturn is about structure, order, and discipline. The Saturn within us is The Taskmaster, The Boss. Saturn energy will help you to do what you know you should do for your own good. Saturn energy helps to prioritize the long view over the short term, delaying gratification. When we tap into Saturn, we can go beyond our immediate desires and build something lasting over time. We can get out of a warm bed to go exercise. We resist temptations in order to ensure a better outcome for ourselves. Wherever Saturn is, in our natal chart or by transit, we are invited to develop patience, maturity, and wisdom.
Saturn is currently at home in Aquarius. Aquarius has two rulers: Saturn (ancient) and Uranus (modern). For all of 2021, and now for the second half of 2022, Saturn’s placement in Aquarius is intensified by its square to Uranus.
Uranus is the part of us that is able to break free from the herd and let our freak-flag fly. When we tap into Uranus, we are our true selves, unfiltered. Uranus in Taurus supports breakthroughs in the ways that we deal with our physical world. If we are willing to go beyond our comfort zone, we can liberate ourselves from patterns that have kept us in lack and discomfort. Wherever Uranus is, in our natal chart or by transit, we are invited to develop authenticity and individuality.
Squares are about tension. We are seeing both the positive and negative expressions of this tension out there in the world. In the collective, the lowest common denominator often wins out. But as individuals, we each have the power to choose toward being part of the solution instead of part of the problem.
Some positive expressions of Saturn square Uranus are:

-Epiphanies that help us change outmoded structures
-Brilliant technological advances
-The coming together of groups in shared causes to create helpful change
Some shadow expressions are:
-Revolutions that prioritize ideals over quality of life
-Devotion to hair-brained ideas
-Technology that hurts us by disconnecting us from our heart
-The coming together of groups in shared causes that harm others
-The disconnection and isolation that comes when we dehumanize each other
This square is about the tension between abstract ideals (Aquarius) and the reality of how those ideals affect us on the ground (Taurus). Each of us is asked to reflect on the ideals that we hold and how they shape our lives. This requires a ruthlessly honest personal inventory for each of us.
Questions for reflection:
Where are we living our daily lives in alignment with our ideals?
Where are we not doing so?
And where we are not, how can we put our money where our mouth is, so to speak?
We can use the final months of this transit to plant our long-held aspirations in the ground, allowing them to grow into something beautiful over the next decade (until the next major Saturn-Uranus aspect, a conjunction). But squares always alert us that the stakes are high. We’re at an important crossroads, both individually and collectively. Staying grounded, in our bodies, and connected to reality are the things that can most help us to navigate these winds of change.

This aspect was in range of influence for most of 2021 and will be from roughly July through December of 2022. The upcoming peaks (within 1-2 degrees) are in September, October, and November of 2022.
