Leaving Scorpio and Entering Sagittarius

We are still in Scorpio Season, the time of year when the Sun is traveling through Scorpio. But we are soon entering into a series of planetary movements that will shift us out of Scorpio energy and into Sagittarius.

The Sun in Scorpio (Oct. 23rd - Nov. 22nd) has been accompanied by a lot of other Scorpio in the sky. Most notably we had a Solar Eclipse (Sun conjunct Moon) in Scorpio on Oct. 25th (read more about the recent eclipses HERE.) But we also had Venus entering Scorpio (Oct. 23rd) and Mercury entering Scorpio (Oct. 29th) right around that eclipse. For much of the past couple of weeks, we’ve had multiple planets in Scorpio.

Scorpio is about confronting our shadow, facing our fears, and confronting difficult truths. Scorpio times bring us to those moments in our lives such as: we admit to ourselves that we never liked our job, we know that we are done with a relationship, or we are at the end of our rope with that difficult family member. Once we see what is true, it’s impossible to un-see it. But our instinct is to push down what is scary. We may be able to temporarily repress any insights that we know will upset the apple cart of our lives.

One of Scorpio’s rulers is Pluto, Lord of the Underworld. This speaks to our ability to repress: we push things down into the Underworld of our psyche. However, Scorpio is also ruled by Mars, and Mars is about action. We always have a choice. We can take action on what we know. Otherwise, we spend our energy toward repression rather than toward actually living. The reward of doing Scorpio work is that we can come out of the other side of it more authentic and passionately engaged with our lives.

Scorpio times, long or short, are intense. With the eclipse season of the past few weeks hanging out on the Scorpio/Taurus axis, this intense vibe has been all the more emphasized. In just a few more days, however, the Scorpio pattern begins to break up. The vibe turns from intense to optimistic as planets enter Sagittarius. Sagittarius is the archetype of the free-spirited wanderer. The emphasis is on possibilities, not realities. While we can certainly err on the side of being unrealistic during a Big Sadge Time, it feels that in this particular instance, a reprieve from the heaviness of Scorpio is more than warranted. We all need to breathe a collective sigh of relief as planets start jumping into Sagittarius. We are able to reap the rewards of this Sagittarius time ahead, especially if we did the soul-searching that was asked of us during Scorpio time.

Each sign on the zodiac wheel is a reaction to the excesses of the previous sign. We have certainly been in the excesses of Scorpio. Now it is time to welcome in the high side of Sagitarrius.

Here are the upcoming Sagittarius events and how to use them:

 Nov 15th: Venus enters Sagittarius

Venus in Sagittarius helps us to tap into hope within even the most challenging relationships. We can improve these relationships (friendship, family, romantic) during this period by being generous toward the Other, accepting their imperfections, and expanding our relationship into new territory. (Through Dec. 9th)

Nov. 17th: Mercury enters Sagittarius

Mercury in Sagittarius offers the ability to see the big picture and to gain perspective on where we want our lives to go next. Our thoughts turn less toward dark realities of the present and more toward brighter possibilities of the future. We are able to coach ourselves and others by keeping our thoughts and words positive. Affirmation magic works well during this time. (Through Dec. 6th).

Nov. 22nd: The Sun enters Sagittarius, kicking off Sagittarius Season

Wherever the Sun is traveling, the spotlight is on the themes of this sign. The optimistic and expansive energy of Sagittarius is more available overall during this period. It is a powerful time for rejuvenation through spontaneity and freedom. (Through Dec. 21st.)

Nov. 23rd: The New Moon is in Sagittarius

This New Moon is a powerful time to set intentions or make wishes that tap into the Sagittarius themes of travel, adventure, freedom, and expansion. If you’re unclear about what you want right now, the day before and the day of the New Moon are power days to reflect and access what brings you a higher sense of meaning and purpose.

Nov. 23rd: Jupiter, ruler of Sagittarius, stations direct

When any planet stations, we feel the energies of that planet more acutely in the collective. Jupiter is about abundance, opportunities, and generosity. In the week before and after this date, we are able to be our own Santa Claus–and to show up as Santa Claus to others. Jupiter promotes the giving spirit. We are connected to Jupiter when we hold the idea that there is always enough.
