Thursday April 28th, Mercury stations retrograde in Taurus. It will spend the duration of its retrograde in that sign until it stations direct on May 22nd. When Mercury is retrograde, there are a few pieces of wisdom that are always useful:
Don’t make any large purchases.
Don’t sign any important contracts.
If you have to travel, double-check all your arrangements, and don’t risk being late.
Prevent miscommunication by being as clear as you possibly can.
It’s time to re-think, re-vise, re-structure, re-visit, re-do. It’s not time to start new things.
All of these apply to the current retrograde. But we can get even more specific when we consider the properties of the sign in which the retrograde takes place. Taurus energy is about simplifying, getting grounded, and calming down. The next three and a half weeks are a time to re-visit that which gives us a sense of peace. It’s a time to simplify our lives in order to create more harmony.
Taurus energy is about our connection to the physical world, and to our own body. This is a perfect time to reflect upon your current relationship to your inner animal. The animal needs rest and relaxation. The animal needs to receive physical pleasure. But due to our frenetic culture, we are prone to become disconnected from the animal part of ourselves. We live in our heads, on the internet, chatting on the phone. We go whizzing through our days, trying to get as much done as possible. Now is a time to slow down, calm down, and get grounded.
Easier said than done. But here are a few strategies:
Receive bodywork. Book a massage or a pedicure.
Take the time at least a couple times a week to make a meal that is both nourishing and delicious. Enjoy mindful eating.
When you’re feeling tired, let yourself take a nap if you can.
Spend more time in nature. Or, if you’re not a fan of the outdoors, do whatever feels soothing to you. (The point is to reconnect with the part of you that can be quiet and still.)
If you practice some of these things, notice if you have any judgments come up about being “lazy." Do you feel like you just don’t have time to get out in nature? Do you feel that it’s self-indulgent to get body work? Do you feel that it’s a waste of time to take a body-break after working long hours on the computer? Do you feel that it’s non-productive to nap? Consider the ways in which you push yourself to keep up with the pace of those around you. It is time to take stock of what your body really needs in order to feel at peace.
So, allow yourself sink into Taurus Mercury Retrograde with the intention to rest when you’re tired, to nourish the body when you’re hungry, and to feed the senses with pleasure. Your animal self will know what to do next.
