As a professional astrologer in the Portland area for several years, Dena has been a guest on local radio shows, facilitated astrology workshops, and offered astrological consulting and instruction. Her “Evolutions of Astrology” Podcast, which kicked off in 2007, features interviews with astrologers and readers of all kinds.
Dena recently completed her second Master’s Degree from Marylhurst University. The coursework included a study of spiritual traditions, Depth Psychology, and Spiritual Direction. Dena’s thesis focused upon the relationship between astrology, divination, and religion. She presented an academic paper on these themes at the GLS Symposium at Stanford University in June of 2008 (the audio of the presentation is available here).
Currently, she is a community college instructor as well as an astrologer, and her experience in teaching theory has been a helpful grounding for her practice in astrological instruction. She is also certified through Steven Forrest’s Apprenticeship Program, and bases her approach on the principles of Evolutionary Astrology.

What to Expect from a Reading
Here are my answers to some frequently asked questions:
What can a reading do for me?
A reading provides insight into your own nature, and a better understanding of what things drive you and create a sense of fulfillment in your life. It can also give clarity in relation to current life issues, and provide potential avenues for the resolution of those issues.
Does a reading predict the future?
The simple answer is “no.” While I am able to see trends and themes coming down the road for you, I am not able to predict future events with any assured accuracy. The future is always subject to change due to our action and free will, and therefore can not be predicted. We can, however, see what the “weather report” is to know what the trends are, and therefore how to best prepare for those trends.
What will you need from me in order to do the reading?
I will send you a questionnaire requiring your birth date, time, and place, as well as the answers to other questions that will help me best address your needs in the reading. Click here for a sample questionnaire.
How should I prepare for a reading?
Schedule the reading during a time when you will be free of distractions. Have a pen and paper handy to take notes. You may also want to spend some time before the reading (perhaps the night previous) writing down the main things you’d like to know about. You can let me know this at the beginning of the session.
What will happen in the session?
We will take the first few minutes to set the tone of the reading. I will ask you to present your intention of focus for the session, and allow time for you to ask any questions of me. I’ll give a short introduction to astrological principles, then tell you what I see in the chart. You may ask questions or dialogue with me at any point along the way. I value dialogue as part of the reading process. But it is also just fine to receive the reading in silence: whichever you are most comfortable with.
How often should I see you?
This is up to you. Sometimes a client will feel the need to schedule another follow-up appointment shortly after the first, to clarify any questions or to more deeply explore material brought up in our first session. Others will see me every few months, or once yearly, depending on what kind of service they desire.
